Description & Building Alterations

This pair of four-story tenement buildings was built 1853-54.  The simple brick building is similar to the structure at the corner of Avenue A and East 6th Street, on the other side of the theater building.  The primary facade on Avenue A has six windows on each of the upper floors as well as a commercial ground floor.  The secondary facade on the East 7th Street side had five bays of windows with the center windows placed between floor levels, indicating a stairway.  The lintels on the front facade are simple, rectangular and flush with the wall plane.  The classical cornice is comprised of simple molding profiles and block modillions.  There is a one story extension in the rear of the building that does not connect to the neighboring building on East 7th Street.
