531 East 6th Street | Block : 402 | Lot #50
Description & Building Alterations
This building, like many of the structures on this street, was built around around 1863 according to tax assessment records. The segmental lintels were all recently replaced, likely by steel lintels concealed behind brick. The building is five stories tall with the entrance now located on the basement level, effectively making it a six-story building. The building is four window bays wide on the upper four floors. The ground floor has two large windows flanking a center group of two small double hung windows. These windows must have replaced the original doorway that would have been accessed by a stoop. The current doorway is below this section of the facade in the center, with two larger basement windows on either side. The building still has its cornice with wooden molding topping corbelled brick decoration.
