Description & Building Alterations
The two five-story tenements at 165 & 167 First Avenue were constructed together in 1871, designed by architect William Jose. Each were erected for one store and eight families.
Each of the buildings is three-bay wide, and they share an identical facade featuring a brick surface, segmental-arched window openings and footed sills. The original window lintels and roof cornice have been stripped. The entrances are flanked by fluted iron pilasters.
