This five-story, four-bay wide tenement was originally built between 1869 and 1870, along with 141 First Avenue. The two buildings share an identical facade design. No. 139 First Avenue features a bracketed cornice with an ornate frieze, segmental-arched window openings with lintels stripped, simple rectangular sills, and an entrance enframement with engaged pilasters supporting a molded entablature.
